October 2–November 7, 2018
Artist Lecture and Gallery Reception
Monday, October 8, 2018. • 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Bragg Media and Entertainment Building, MTSU
Room 103 and Gallery on Second Floor
The Baldwin Photographic Gallery is delighted to present Susan kae Grant’s Night Journey, an ongoing body of work examining the perceptual and psychological aspects of dreams, memory, and the unconscious. The exhibit features 29 large-scale, black-and-white works on paper, each created in Grant’s signature style of photographing the shadows of haunting, ethereal worlds elaborately fabricated in Grant’s studio. Using shadows as metaphor, Grant seeks to create theatrical scenes and narratives that reference the ridiculous, the tragic and the unexpected.
In addition to the artist lecture, exhibit and gallery reception, Baldwin Photographic Gallery is presenting an all day career workshop: Strategizing a Career in the Arts: A Day with Susan kae Grant and Mary Virginia Swanson, Tuesday, October 9, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the MTSU Student Union Building, Room 224. This intensive one-day workshop focuses on strategies for building a successful and satisfying career as a photographic artist. Discussions will address structures for making work, creating networks and getting your work into the public arena while gaining an understanding of the markets for imagery today. Space is limited; participants must rsvp by email to jheigle@mtsu. This workshop is sponsored by the Baldwin Photographic Enhancement Fund, University Honors College, College of Liberal Arts, and MTSU Career Development Center.
